What is a Halbach Array?
The Halbach array is a special arrangement of permanent magnets that makes the magnetic field on one side of the array stronger while cancelling out the field on the other side to near zero. The Halbach array magnets sold are very different from the magnetic fields around a single magnet. For a single magnet, you have a magnetic field of equal strength on both sides of the magnet.

The most common example of a Halbach array is a flexible refrigerator magnet. These thin, flexible magnets are often printed on refrigerator magnets or on the back of cars.
If your goal is to stick to a steel surface, there's a better option: the mounting magnets.
Mounting magnets use steel slots or steel cups to redirect the magnetic field from the back of a single magnet, which is about twice as strong as you might expect the magnet to pull alone.
* Halbach arrays are most commonly used to generate magnetic fields using permanent magnets arranged in a 90° change of direction between magnetic elements, which amplifies the magnetic force.
* Planar Halbach arrays are commonly used for holding, fixture, linear coupling applications, etc.
* Circular Halbach arrays (OD iterations) can be used for brushless DC motors, magnetic couples, generators and other rotors.
* Circular Halbach arrays (ID iterations) are used to constrain the plasma, guide, sort, and accelerate moving charged particles, and transmit oscillations.
Halbach arrays are most commonly used to generate magnetic fields using permanent magnets arranged in a 90-degree change of direction between magnetic elements, which amplifies the magnetic force.
Halbach arrays can also be configured in other shapes. Halbach array ring magnets with multipole magnetization or ring magnets composed of smaller arcs can be used in this way.
