How much more expensive is neodymium EH compared to UH?

Addtime:2026-03-26 16:10:02 Click:155

Neodymium-iron-boron magnets are classified into various grades based on their temperature resistance and coercivity, such as M, H, SH, UH, EH, and AH. Among these, UH stands for Ultra High (high temperature resistance), and EH stands for Extra High (even higher temperature resistance). These grades primarily indicate the maximum operating temperature the material can withstand; for example, the UH grade can operate stably at approximately 180°C, while the EH grade typically reaches a temperature resistance of approximately 200°C. So, how much more expensive is EH compared to UH? This is a question many people are concerned about.

In terms of material cost, EH is significantly more expensive than UH. This is because achieving higher temperature resistance requires a higher proportion of heavy rare earth elements or more sophisticated grain boundary diffusion processes, which directly drive up the cost of the alloy. Under the same magnetic performance grade, the raw material cost of EH magnetic materials is typically about 15% to 30% higher than that of UH. When converted to the industry-standard pricing for raw blanks, this generally translates to an additional cost of approximately 70 to 100 yuan per kilogram, though the exact difference may fluctuate depending on rare earth market conditions, grade, and purchase volume.

When it comes to finished magnets, the price premium for EH materials is even more pronounced. Prices are influenced by factors such as size, grade, coating, and manufacturing difficulty (EH materials are more brittle, resulting in a relatively higher defect rate), so they cannot be simply calculated on a per-kilogram basis. The price of a single magnet is often 20%–40% higher than that of a UH magnet, or even more.
