Ultra thin strong magnets refer to permanent magnets with relatively thin thickness, such as thickness less than 1mm, the magnet material is usually neodymium, which has been widely used in many fields in recent years, especially suitable for occasions where compact size is required but there are certain requirements for magnetic properties.


Ultra thin strong magnets in 2 mainstream materials;

Ultra thin and strong magnets are usually used mainly in neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) and samarium cobalt (SmCo), they both belong to rare-earth magnets, of which neodymium magnets are the strongest permanent magnet material, the magnetic force is far more than the other types, the highest common grade is N52, the working temperature is usually 80 ℃ -200 ℃ (according to the different grades), due to the easy oxidation, additional plating is needed to protect against corrosion. Samarium cobalt magnet material has weaker magnetic force than neodymium magnet, but still performs well in high temperature or special environment. Without plating protection, they can be directly exposed to harsh environments, the working temperature can reach 250℃-350℃, due to the scarcity of samarium cobalt raw material, which leads to its high cost.

Common Shapes of Ultra thin Strong Magnets


Ultra-thin rectangular or square

Thickness is much less than length and width, regular shape, mainly used in electronic products (such as vibration motors for cell phones), sensors, speakers, etc.


Ultra-thin round disc shape

Round design, small thickness, can be made into 0.4mm thick, commonly used in toys, packaging, leather goods, handbags, can add 3M adhesive backing.


Ultra-thin Ring Shape

Characterized by a hole in the middle, thin thickness, can be installed through some parts.


Ultra-thin Arc Shape

Curved design, thin thickness, typical applications include motors, magnetic bearings, thickness 1mm to 5mm, curvature customized according to needs.


Suggestions for the selection of ultra thin strong magnets

Choose the appropriate magnetic force level and select magnets of different levels (such as N35, N52, etc.) according to actual needs. For applications that require high magnetic strength, neodymium iron boron magnets with N52 or higher are more suitable.


The size of ultra thin magnets is very important. It is necessary to ensure that its thinness can achieve the required magnetic force.


Prioritize neodymium magnets for applications that pursue ultimate magnetism and are cost sensitive, such as consumer electronics. High temperature, corrosive environments (such as industrial and aerospace), or high requirements for long-term stability, samarium cobalt magnets are given priority consideration.


Precautions for using ultra-thin strong magnets;

Most ultra thin magnets have high brittleness and are prone to breakage or fragmentation, so care should be taken to avoid impact and collision when placing and installing them, and it is forbidden for two magnets to attract each other.


Small thin strong magnets are easily swallowed and may cause intestinal obstruction or perforation, and need to be kept sealed and out of the reach of children.


Neodymium magnets are prone to oxidation and rusting (especially uncoated products), and should be avoided from contact with corrosive environments such as water, salt spray, acid and alkali. It is recommended to choose protective layer products such as nickel plating and epoxy resin plating for humid environments.
